Support

Grow with us where the grid hasn’t.

Help us do more

Aloe Energy is a small, not-for-profit initiative. We are not set up to take online donations yet, so the best way to support the work, or to join it, is to get in touch directly.

Contact us

Email Brandon Simons, founder of Aloe Energy, and tell us a little about how you would like to help.

Ways to help

Support comes in many forms

Funding

Grants and gifts for research, testing equipment and pilot projects.

Equipment

Retired solar panels, batteries or test equipment that could have a second life.

Data

Grid, mini-grid or battery data that helps answer real questions. We handle it carefully and only share what you agree to.

Expertise

Engineers, researchers and students who want to collaborate or contribute to open work.

Partnership

Utilities, mini-grid developers, e-mobility companies and NGOs with a project where we could help.

Introductions

Connections to funders, programmes or communities working on energy access.

Aloe Energy is not yet a registered charity, so contributions are not tax-deductible at this time.

Volunteer or join the team

Want to be part of it?

Aloe Energy is small, and every extra pair of hands makes a real difference. Whether you can give a few hours a month or want a bigger role, we would like to hear from you, wherever you are based.

Roles are voluntary and fully remote, so you can help from wherever you are.

Got a creative Waste to Wealth idea? Something that turns old batteries, solar panels or other waste into energy or income. Tell us about it and let’s talk.

Where you could help

  • GIS and energy planning: mapping settlements, grids and demand in QGIS and Python.
  • Power systems and batteries: mini-grid and grid studies, battery testing and second-life design.
  • Research: students looking for a thesis or project on energy access, mini-grids or battery life cycles.
  • Waste to Wealth ideas: new ways to give batteries, solar panels and other waste a second life.
  • Writing, design and funding: grant writing, communications, design and social media.

How to get involved

Send a short email with what you would like to do, how much time you have, where you are based, and a link to your CV or LinkedIn. We read every message and reply as soon as we can.
